Mozambique - Rehabilitation of the orthopedic center of Beira
In 2019, Cyclone Idai devastated the orthopedic center in the city of Beira. SwissLimbs contributed to rebuild the roof, to restore machinery and to supply new materials for the manufacture of orthotics and prosthetics.
In March 2019, Cyclone Idai hit central and eastern Africa, affecting significantly Mozambique and the city of Beira. More than 600 people lost their lives and the damage was incalculable. The cyclone severely affected homes, public buildings, health facilities, water and electricity distribution systems.

The orthopedic center at the central hospital in the city of Beira was devastated by the cyclone, damaging the roof and machinery inside. SwissLimbs - in partnership with Light for the World and in collaboration with the Mozambican Ministry of Health - worked to rehabilitate the center.

The orthopedic center is now protected by a new cyclone-resistant roof and is fully functional, thanks to the procurement of machinery and materials for the manufacture of prosthetics and orthotics.
